Biomarker is a substance, the excessive presence of which is sometimes found in blood, other body fluids or tissues and may identify some types of cancer. Examples are CA125 for ovary cancer, A15-3 for breast cancer, PSA for prostatic cancer, CEA and TPA for tumours of ovary, breast, lung, pancreas and intestine (ALCASE, 2009).
